It’s been a wild year and a half since Tipsy Pelican Tavern Vol. 4 was released. That’s a longer interval than usual, I know.
In that period of time I started a company with some friends, found love, then lost it. Bounced around between California and Colorado then traveled to Canada, Taiwan, China, and Vietnam (where I’m at now). Did consulting for a big conglomerate in a field that really isn’t my forte, but it was fun and exciting. I also tried writing a serial fiction for the first time and published it on Royal Road (spoiler alert: it crashed and burned).
The short of it is to say that it’s been quite the crazy, messy ride that it always is.
It was at the end of Volume 4, in the author acknowledgements section, where I mentioned that I thought I had found my path.
That was true. But sometimes you have to run in the right direction a long time before you get anywhere. And sometimes you have to go far away to find what is already inside of you.
All that’s to say that I’m back to writing the Tipsy Pelican Tavern series.
My life is still crazy and messy, and I’ve got more side projects than a dozen reasonable people should be pursuing. But I’m back in the tavern.
The series will rerelease with a new prequel novella and new art (covers and interiors) and new edits and—there were a lot of issues in the previous versions and it drives me crazy to think that people have been rereading them. But Amazon doesn’t update your books when I update them unfortunately.
After the first four books have rereleased, Volume 5 will release. I’m working on it now and I hope to sweet Celeru that I get it done in by holiday season.
I’m also using professional artists this time around. As much as I love illustrating the series, I’m honestly not a very good artist (in comparison to professionals) and it takes me far too long to get anything done. Not great for sustainability of the series. (I’ll still do sketches, though!)
If all goes well with my artists, I’ll be releasing a comic book/manga adaptation on my patreon soon. Fingers crossed on that one.
I’ll share more once I have the details.
Talk soon,
August
